Are you searching for a simple way to add some charm to your home decor? Get in on the bow trend without the hassle of sewing by making this lovely Bow-tied Basket. This basket is great as a charming display or beautiful organization tool. This project requires minimal materials and creativity—plus, no sewing skills are needed!

Let’s dive in!

What You'll Need

Before we embark on this fun crafting adventure, gather these essential materials for your no-sew basket project:

  • Fabric Strips/Ribbon/Felt Strips: 1-2" widths

  • Grapevine or Wire Basket (or wreath)

  • Scissors

Once you have everything ready, we can start crafting!

The Process

Step 1: Prepare Your Strips

You need 30-40 strips to cover a 10"x13" basket. The strips should be about 18" in length. You can use fabric strips (great for using scraps), felt, wool, ribbon, or any other material that can be "stripped".

Step 2: The Larks Head Knot

Now it’s time to lay a base cover to the basket with a special knot. You may be familiar with this knot from macrame, Scouts, or you may use it in your life. For this basket it is used to cover some of the vine and soften the edges of the basket. This step is optional and you can go directly to tying bows if you like.

This knot is made by folding a strip in half and poking the loop under a branch from the inside of the basket towards the front. Then pull the strip ends up over the branch and down through the loop. Trim the tails. I like the "forked look" by folding in half and cutting diagonally downward from center to edge.

Add as many Larks Head Knots as you like until you have a nice base for your bows.

Step 3: Add the Bows

After achieving your desired base, it’s time to tie the bows! You could use slightly wider strips for the bows if you like.

I found that using the traditional method like tying your shoes worked best. So feed the fabric through some branches, tie an anchor knot and then tie your bow. Fiddle with the loops and tails until they look the way you want and then trim the tails. Add as many as you like until the basket is sufficiently covered.

To create a polished finish, take your time with this step—you will appreciate it later!

Your new basket can find a home in various places, such as the living room, bathroom, craft area, or mantle. It’s perfect for storing everything from magazines cards, mail, craft supplies, or a floral arrangement.

Customization Ideas

Now that you’ve mastered the basic technique, let your creativity shine! Here are some fun customization ideas:

  • Seasonal Decor: Combine different colors and patterns to decorate seasonally or for various holidays.

  • Sizes and Shapes: Experiment with different basket sizes and shapes - or even a wreath!

  • Parties and Showers: Totally customize the colors and add other touches like some sparkle to make a basket for a birthday, anniversary, baby shower, or wedding to hold flowers or cards or little gifties.

Enjoy the benefits to your crafty mind and soul without the stress by creating this no-sew basket for any occasion!
